WK518 BBMF Chipmunk TMk10
WK518 arrived in June for its Major Service.
The major is progressing well with the aircraft stripped to bare metal, all flying controls removed and the wings are about to come off.
Many minor age related defects have cropped up and are being put right at the major to give WK518 a bright future with BBMF.
The aircraft is to be recovered with irish linen to the flying controls and Ceconite on the wings, and resprayed in the colours of Hull UAS circa 1960′s.
The major has discovered several areas requiring repair to bring the aircraft back to a good airworthiness condition. Several of the flying controls had crushed trailing edges. Canopy vibration and poor fit had taken its toll on the top of the rear fuselage. Pleasing news for the civil fleet is that there have been no NDT or corrosion issues.
Work has progressed with the aircraft now in primer. Recovering with fabric is well underway.
The aircraft has been completed in its new scheme, several interesting issues have arisen along the way that have allowed us to work closely with DH Support with their expert knowledge of the DHC1 design.
